I am Professor of Urban Land Management, and Director of the Institute of Human Settlements Studies, Ardhi University, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. For KNOW I am a Co-Investigator for Work Package 1 as well as the Africa Regional lead.

My research focuses on land management, governance of informal urbanisation, and governance of water and sanitation in peri-urban areas. I’ve worked with several cities in Tanzania to promote good governance as well as accumulated extensive international experience consulting with the UN-Habitat, the World Bank, Danish International Development Ageny, Sida and more.

I have published extensively both locally and internationally on urban governance in poverty; enhancing service delivery and partnerships and land management. I sit on various research advisory boards and committees as well as participating in various multi-disciplinary research projects undertaken in Tanzania and across the East African region in Urban Planning Standards

for Urbanisation in Poverty, and Measuring Service Delivery in Southern Africa.
