Community Empowerment and Collaboration: Strategy towards Urban Equality in Yogyakarta
city project
Empowered communities with a clear idea of their ability to overcome conditions of poverty and informality increase the possibilities to create urban equality in the city. We ask if the process of collaboration and empowerment between local actors can help to contest urban inequality, identifying/implementing new strategic directions and wider partnerships.
Our team are collaborating closely with Kalijawi focus groups and other community networks, to see what structures/ strategies/ mechanisms can be created within the municipality of Yogyakarta to appropriately respond to socio-spatial segregation of informal communities, especially along riverbanks. The research will deepen the understanding of tenure alternatives in the city to ensure access to secure land for informal settlers advocating for a National-level alternative scheme for improved financial mechanisms for secure tenure.
